CFAA Successfully Hosted the Inaugural Networking Reception
On April 23, 2009, CFAA successfully hosted the Inaugural Networking Reception at the Union League Club of Chicago. More than 70 guests attended the reception including the Honorable Deputy Consul General Mr. Chu Maoming of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Chicago. On behalf of the Consulate, Mr. Chu expressed his congratulations to the establishment of Chinese Finance Association of America and anticipated CFAA to be a viable platform to facilitate the exchange of ideas in the financial industry between the U.S. and China. Consel Mr. Li Xuqin also attended the reception.

Ms. Vivian Lin, President of CFAA delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the Board of Directors, reiterating CFAA’s mission of serving the Chinese finance professionals and others who are interested in the financial industries of China and its commitment to achieve the mission at a high professional standard and in a long-term sustainable way.
The highlight of the reception was the speech by the distinguished keynote speaker Mr. Eric Hargan, former Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on the topic of “Financial Impact of Healthcare Reform in the US”. Mr. Hargan’s speech covered the impact of the potential healthcare reform by the Obama administration on the US economy, fiscal policy and budgeting, pharmaceutical industry, health insurance system, Medicaid and Medicare as well as impact on individuals and corporate. His insightful and interesting speech was followed by many interesting and good questions from the audience, some of whom stayed on talking to Mr. Eric Hargan and other guests until one and a half hour after the reception formally concluded at 8pm.

The reception was a great success, attracting guests including senior executives from local major financial institutions, seasoned investors from global and local asset management firms, experts from futures industry and trading firms, bankers from the commercial banking industry, finance professors, attorneys with M&A experiences, accountants, and consultants, as well as students from MBA programs from both Chicago and as far as Urbana-Champagne, IL and South Bend, Indiana.
